Greetings from Cedar Meadow Farm!

We are officially in full swing for the season.  Our layer chicks have arrived, the turkeys and ducklings are here, the piglets are in the garden, and our lambs are due in time for Mother’s Day.  We’re even expecting a hatch of pheasant by the end of the month!  We have been working hard around the farmstead and the fruits of our labors are evident.

To give you a better understanding of just how far we’ve come, one year ago there were no structures on our farm (not even a road), and the fields were surrounded by rusty old barbed wire.  We’ve since mowed down the rosa floribunda, removed the autumn olive, and waged war on the bittersweet.  Over the winter months, we removed most of the barbed wire and updated the fencing.  As if that weren’t enough, we are in the process of building our own home!

Last weekend, we hosted an enormously successful open house - many thanks to everyone who visited us.  Our goal was for you to better understand the breeds of animals we have, how they are raised, and ultimately, how they will come to your dinner table.  Most of all, we wanted your youngsters to interact with our youngsters.  It was a joy to see the children holding the ducklings and chicks, feeding the hogs, and petting the bunny.  We are already planning next year’s open house!  In the meantime, be sure to visit our booth at the Ledyard Sampler, held June 10th at the Nathan Lester House.  Click here for more information.

Don’t forget to register for our electronic newsletter by sending an e-mail to info@cedarmeadowfarm.net.  Now is the time to sign up for our egg delivery service (delivery range is very limited), place an order for broilers, Thanksgiving turkeys, or put a hold on a ¼, ½, or whole pig.  Are you thinking about a pig roast on Labor Day weekend?  Let us know and we can have a pig ready for you.  Cedar Meadow Farm also has animals available for sale:  Turkey Poults, Layer Hens, Chicken Pullets, and soon we will have baby bunnies!  As if that weren’t enough, we will be selling cords of seasoned and split firewood this fall.  We can custom cut your cord if you order in advance.

Wishing you all health and happiness,

Brian and Julia Cronin

N.B. - Some of you may have noticed there is no April newsletter in the archive.  We had some technical difficulties and lost our April Newsletter!  Oops, lesson learned – we need to do a better job backing up our data…
